Lenses

The lens is the most important piece of photographic equipment you will choose when photographing any subject. It is your lens that influences the sharpness, contrast, color, and depth of field in your images. Selecting the right lens for the job is the single most important equipment decision you will make as a photographer.

When photographing shelter animals, you are dealing with subjects of various sizes. On the same day, we might photograph a small hamster that weighs a few ounces and then photograph a 120 pound dog. Though you can sometimes make do using one lens to photograph animals of such varying sizes, we have found it better to use several lenses, one for the smaller animals such as cats, hamsters, and rabbits, and a different lens for dogs.
