Attribution

You should get attribution (or acknowledgement) for your photographs whenever possible. Any Websites or posters using your photographs should identify you as the photographer. Some newspapers will not print your name unless you are a staff photographer but others will.

If you see some of your photographs in a newspaper, call the editor and identify yourself as the photographer and see if they will print your name the next time they use one of your photographs. If not, it's probably because of union regulations that they have no control over. It never hurts to ask.

If you see some of your photographs in the local papers, save the pages and consider having some of them laminated. They can make a great addition to your portfolio! Also, you can ask whoever is in charge of distributing the photographs to the media at your shelter to make you copies of the press clippings. The shelter should get a copy of each newspaper or newsletter that the photographs appear in.
